Santa Barbara Wedding - Kailynn + Preston

Just like any other fields, because this wedding industry is saturated with so many photographers (competition), I have so much fun finding my "right" clients like Kailynn and Preston who would talk to me how much they love the former White House chief photographer Pete Souza's photos of Obama administration. As a wedding photojournalist and a former journalist for news organizations, I hit the jackpot with this couple in Santa Barbara last summer.

Some people may not used to the unposed/storytelling approach to the wedding photography, so Kailynn MADE sure to let her folks know that's what I was doing all day. "Hey, guys - Annie is a documentary photographer, so she'll do her things; please don't mind her," she said to her friends and family on the wedding day as I met them for the first time. I mean..... WHAAAAAAT? I'm lucky enough to have met such a lovely, nice, chill couple, but it was such a treat to have them support and be in love with photojournalism itself.

Their wedding was held at Unitarian Society of Santa Barbara, and it couldn't have been a better day photographing with Brett Butterstein, a super talented photographer (last year's Photographer of the YEAR of Wedding Photojournalist Association.)

Southern California Wedding - Katie + Blake

A wedding like Katie and Blake's encourages me to continue to do what I love the most; documenting our life as it is. I have such a huge admiration and respect for these two lovebirds who have the biggest heart for life and simply live theirs to the fullest. I personally think it's the best way to live - living in the presence, and it is so simple yet so rare to find those around me.

Saying goodbye is always heart-aching, especially when it comes to your loved ones. Katie lost her father about a week before her wedding and we were going to postpone it. But Katie said because her father would have wanted them to be celebrating, the beautiful wedding was proceeded at Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles. And I could almost feel that Katie's father was there the whole day not only because every single person was so darn happy but also the day was complete with euphoria, lots of love and celebrations.

Kelly + Greg. One afternoon.
“You are protected, in short, by your ability to love!” —Albus Dumbledore

Kelly and Greg have been dating over 5 years, and they have about 8 photos of them together including a couple of selfies. There is neither a single photo frame nor a photo display of them at home. What? I puzzled. Really? I asked. They hate photos. O.M.G. I need to run away!

But! Instead, I was welcomed into their home and had a chance to document their normal day together.

"We're pretty boring," Kelly said.

Well - that is perfect because I am too. I believe all the fun is in the simple life. Someone once told me that life is amazingly good when it’s simple and amazingly simple when it’s good.
