Point Dume Beach Wedding in Malibu: From Elopement Dreams to a Handwritten “I Do”

Ariana always dreamed of eloping. Something quiet, easy, just the two of them. But Ben convinced her to go for a real wedding - something still small and intimate, but shared with family and close friends. And now? She jokes that he owes her… big time. 😅

Their Point Dume Beach Wedding in Malibu turned out to be everything they didn’t know they needed - peaceful, beautiful, and completely true to who they are.

Ariana and Ben have been together for 14 years (WOOT!). They met as college coworkers at a coffee shop, and over the years, they’ve grown up together, rescued and fostered dogs, rebuilt a home, and built a life full of love, laughter, and shared purpose.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I can tell you - this day was special. The kind of wedding that isn’t just pretty but meaningful.

Every guest received a handwritten note from the couple, including me! (And I still have mine pinned in my office.) It’s little things like that that make a wedding unforgettable.

The whole day felt so “them.” They chose Point Dume Beach Wedding in Malibu for its natural beauty and calm atmosphere - perfect for a Southern California intimate wedding. Their sweet rescue dog was nearby, and the love from their people filled every moment.

It wasn’t the elopement Ariana imagined years ago… it was better. Because it was real. Simple. Honest. Full of the kind of love that’s grown over years and shows up in all the little things.

So here’s to Ariana and Ben - and to more quiet mornings, long walks with rescue pups, handwritten notes, and 14 more years (times a million) of love. ❤️

Bel Air Country Club Wedding Los Angeles Photoshoot - Sierra + Alan

One day, I got an email from Sierra, "We want a wedding photographer that won't do all the usual things (a million posed pictures or any for that matter or pictures of expensive shoes etc.). We would love to have you just capture everything as it actually happened so we can look back and laugh and remember what it was like, not how hot we are (b/c WE KNOW jk jk ;)" My heart literally started beating so fast because I was that excited. Because... you know, it's harder than you think - meeting like-minded people/friends in life. That's what I felt with Sierra and Alan from the start - from that email. Sierra was finishing up school in London when she met Alan, who is a talented film director, working with other fellow brilliant filmmakers such as Wes Anderson, and they were moving to LA, where Sierra grew up. (Oh, and it turns out, this amazing London-based documentary wedding photographer Lyndsey Goddard had already photographed their UK wedding and helped the couple find me for their California Bel Air Bay Club Wedding photoshoot. Yayyyy, thanks Lyndsey!)

Truly though, in all my experience as a wedding photographer in CA, Sierra and Alan are the two nicest and most genuine people I've ever met, and I admire how they enjoy life and appreciate the true meaning of being in the moment. It was probably my first event where a giant sign at the entrance to the wedding ceremony read, "There's a LOVELY LADY with an IMPRESSIVE camera out there SOMEWHERE. So tuck your camera and smartphone away and RELAX." It was pretty amazing to see how a group of 200 people already knew what was important in life - living in the present, because, you know.. even with that sign, there would be at least one single person who still pulls his/her mobile phone out. But no, not here. It was simply beautiful to feel and document the love their friends and family were pouring on them all day and all night; in the heart of the beautiful Pacific Palisades at The Bel Air Bay Club.

Intimate Malibu Wedding - David + Zar

David and Zar live in Vancouver, Canada but their summer wedding held at Gull's Way in Malibu with close friends and family. Gull's Way is the late TV personality Dick Clark's house, and in fact, Beyonce was apparently staying next door to this estate for a quick vacation during their wedding ceremony. This international couple met in 2009 online and decided to settle in Vancouver, but Zar was born in Malaysia and grew up in Tel Aviv, Israel while David was born in San Diego but grew up in Westlake Village (between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara). I always wonder what my wedding would be and honestly, I get ideas from my own clients every weekend. And this intimate wedding with about 30 people would probably be mine if there's a wedding. I'm not sure if my family can make it (like Zar's family couldn't), but I know the wedding will be filled with emotions like theirs - nervousness, excitement, happiness, and a little bit of sadness for those who couldn't physically be there.
