Olivia and Morgan’s Colorful Wedding at The Garland

As a wedding photojournalist, you get a front row seat to some of the most intimate moments in people’s lives. The vows. The reunions. The big belly laughs. The quiet little tears. You feel everything. And you get to hold it with your camera.

Olivia and Morgan’s wedding at The Garland in Los Angeles was one of those days that fills you up in the best way. A whirlwind of joy and color. A full celebration of culture, family, and pure, unfiltered fun. It was the kind of wedding that reminds you again and again why documentary wedding photography matters.

There were surprises at every turn. Chinese lion dancers burst into the reception with pounding drums that shook the whole room. Everyone cheered and jumped in. The energy was unreal. Then the mood shifted into something soft and emotional. Olivia’s mom stepped up to the mic and started singing a Chinese song, Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin. Olivia and her dad danced slowly to her voice. It was tender and full of heart.

Her sisters told me that Olivia is the one who made their dad open up. She is the one who gently cracked him open and made him say things he had never said before. Things like “I love you.” I was honestly choked up behind my camera, thinking of my own Asian dad and how awkward we can be together sometimes. It hit me right in the chest.

This is the gift of documentary wedding photography in Los Angeles. We are both an observer and a silent participant. We get swept up in the drums, the dancing, the laughter, and the tears. And you know, when we click the shutter, that we are not just taking a photo. We are saving the feeling of being there. Wildly joyful. Completely unguarded. Full of truth and heart.

💌 Let’s Make Something Real Together
If you are planning a wedding at The Garland, anywhere in Los Angeles, or anywhere in Southern California, and you want photos that feel alive and full of truth, I would love to be your documentary wedding photographer.

LET’S CREATE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL ✨

Let’s start your story
Marina and Alejandro’s Wedding at Los Robles Greens

Marina and Alejandro’s day was overflowing with love you could feel. 💗 From the quiet, sacred moments inside their family church in Los Feliz to the wild, joy-filled dance floor at Los Robles Greens, everything felt easy, warm, and deeply genuine.

As a Los Angeles wedding photojournalist, my work is rooted in documentary wedding photography. That means I do not chase “perfect” staged shots. Honestly, what even is perfect? For me, it is about stepping into the heartbeat of the day. It is about capturing moments that are raw, unscripted, and full of truth.

With Marina and Alejandro, that heartbeat was STRONG. Their wedding was full of loud laughter, big hugs, and crazy dance moves. But there were also tender, quiet moments that carried so much weight. They honored the memory of her dad and aunt in ways that felt soft and powerful. Their presence was felt all around, reminding everyone that love goes beyond time and space.

When I look at these photos, I see what documentary photography is all about. I see joy that cannot be staged. I see tears that cannot be planned. I see family connections that are deep and real. This is why I love Los Robles Greens wedding photography and why I keep pursuing documentary wedding photography in Los Angeles.

Why You Should Keep Your Documentary Wedding Photographer Until the End of the Night

Let me tell you a little secret: some of the best wedding photos happen at the very end.

You know, after the cake has been cut. After the formalities. After the speeches and the group portraits. When your shoes are off, your hair is messy, and everyone is just being their best selves on the dance floor.

That’s when the real magic happens.

We’re talking about joyful chaos. Drunk hugs. Grandma dancing to Beyoncé. Friends crying happy tears in the corner. Wild moves no one will remember the next day. And of course… that one cousin who thinks he’s in a boy band now. 😂

When our coverage of wedding photography and wedding videography gets cut early, we often miss out on the real and unfiltered joy that happens once the pressure is off. The last few hours are where the raw emotions come through; sometimes they are the kind of thing that makes your wedding story unforgettable.

As a wedding photojournalist, I love documenting these moments because they will remind you how your wedding felt

Not just how it looked.

Here are a few moments we’ve captured only because we stayed until the very end (and YES, you’ll see what we mean in the photos below):

These are real memories. The ones you’ll laugh at, cry over, and treasure forever.

So if you're wondering how long you should have your wedding photographer stay, here's our advice:
Keep us until the end.

Because that’s when the kind of raw memories no one plans happen.
