Allison & Cody’s Colorful San Diego Wedding at The Heights Golf Club

“Hey Allison, is a red dress too much? ”

“No, red is perfect.

It was my first time photographing a wedding in a bright red dress, but it matched the entire vibe of their day. Allison and Cody asked guests to wear something bold and colorful, and they meant it. The wedding was full of hot pinks, bright reds, and color everywhere you looked.

Allison is just like the palette she chose - passionate, outspoken, and full of fire. Cody is her perfect balance and brings total golden retriever energy. He is warm, gentle, and makes people feel instantly at ease.

I love how life brings people together at the right time. Neither of them was looking for a serious relationship when they met at a friend’s party, but their connection was undeniable, and they just never stopped hanging out. 💗

Since then, they’ve grown so much together. From studying human development and law to graduating and passing the bar, they’ve built something real and grounded.

Their San Diego wedding at The Heights Golf Club reflected exactly who they are. It was vibrant, fearless, and full of heart. This is the type of documentary wedding photography I love the most.

Photographed by me and our associate Antoine.

Why You Should Keep Your Documentary Wedding Photographer Until the End of the Night

Let me tell you a little secret: some of the best wedding photos happen at the very end.

You know, after the cake has been cut. After the formalities. After the speeches and the group portraits. When your shoes are off, your hair is messy, and everyone is just being their best selves on the dance floor.

That’s when the real magic happens.

We’re talking about joyful chaos. Drunk hugs. Grandma dancing to Beyoncé. Friends crying happy tears in the corner. Wild moves no one will remember the next day. And of course… that one cousin who thinks he’s in a boy band now. 😂

When our coverage of wedding photography and wedding videography gets cut early, we often miss out on the real and unfiltered joy that happens once the pressure is off. The last few hours are where the raw emotions come through; sometimes they are the kind of thing that makes your wedding story unforgettable.

As a wedding photojournalist, I love documenting these moments because they will remind you how your wedding felt

Not just how it looked.

Here are a few moments we’ve captured only because we stayed until the very end (and YES, you’ll see what we mean in the photos below):

These are real memories. The ones you’ll laugh at, cry over, and treasure forever.

So if you're wondering how long you should have your wedding photographer stay, here's our advice:
Keep us until the end.

Because that’s when the kind of raw memories no one plans happen.

Eli and Cory’s Los Angeles Backyard Wedding | Documentary Wedding Photography Magic

Eli and Cory got married in the most heartfelt way - a cozy backyard wedding at Cory’s childhood home in Los Angeles.

They met in 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic. Eli messaged Cory on OkCupid, and their first “date” was in Minecraft (yes, really!). For their second date, they walked and talked so much that Cory actually injured his foot and ended up in a boot for months. I mean… if that’s not a meet-cute for the ages, I don’t know what is.

Cory is a video game designer, and Eli is a comic artist and illustrator - and together, they’re endlessly creative. One of my favorite details? Cory proposed in their Minecraft world, building a scavenger hunt, musical number, and even a replica of the first home they built together in the game. I’m still swooning.

Their Los Angeles backyard wedding was filled with all the good stuff: family, friends, laughter, and a whole lot of color and personality. And from a photojournalistic perspective, this day was magic - no stiff posing, just real, unscripted love. Cory’s sister Monique catered the whole thing (she owns three restaurants!), and Eli’s family flew in from Miami to celebrate.

We’re beyond honored to have captured such a joyful, meaningful celebration - right where Cory grew up, surrounded by all the people who shaped their story.
